Trailer for Keira Knightley's 'The Edge of Love'

Let it be known that little live but lies,
Love-lies, and god-lies, and lies-to-please. Dylan Thomas
Back in 2006, I couldn't say that I was itching to see The Edge of Love, which was then titled The Best Time of Our Lives. Keira Knightley was attached to star, which wasn't surprising since her mom wrote the script, but Lindsay Lohan was attached to co-star. LiLo was already getting into tabloid trouble and it seemed like a slap in the face to Dylan Thomas fans, and a moment of insanity within the casting powers that be. Luckily, she dropped out, and Sienna Miller stepped in.
Now, finally, we've got a trailer. I could do without the first pointless closeup of Keira's face, but the trailer soon goes through the basics of the story, and it's looking like a sweet literary drama. Edge focuses on the love triangle between Caitlin (Miller) and Dylan Thomas (Matthew Rhys) and friend Vera Phillips (Knightley), and how this led Vera's husband, William Killick (Cillian Murphy), to open fire on the Thomas home with a machine gun and hand grenade in retaliation. Normally, I get a bit perturbed about literary dramas that focus on the romance rather than the writer, but this is a strange story, and it looks like it was captured well for the big screen.
I'd be remiss to not mention that this certainly has Atonement similarities (although one quote in the movie says that this flick is better!), but as a Thomas fan, I'm hoping it can shine in its own light.
The Edge of Love currently has no US release date, but is scheduled to arrive in the UK at the end of June.

I just think it's totally suspect that they have quotes in the trailer almost two months before the film is supposed to be released. C'mon!

Even before the quote came up that basically said "This is just like Atonement!" I was shocked at how much they've taken from it. Maybe it's just the trailer, but, including a clumsy recreation of Atonement's visual style, they have Keira Knightley telling a lover who's going off to war to "Come back to me," which is a repeated, key phrase in Atonement, and they have what looks like a tableu of two people running towards a beach, and playing around at the edge of the water. There's a whole bunch more, but its kind of disgusting how blatantly it seems to be ripping off Atonement.

Going through it again, there's also the typwriter, and the specifically placed sideways tracking shot of Cillian Murphy walking through a field (extremely similar to a shot in Atonement, and almost the same placement in the trailer), and a couple of the direct addresses to the camera look like they're lit nearly the same as the ones of young Briony in Atonement.
It's hard to condemn the film just yet, but the trailer is certainly pitched as Atonement 2.

What nonsense is spoken here sometimes. John Maybury is an entirely different director who got a very edgy performance out of the some what wooden Knightly in "The Jacket" an interestingly dark movie filmed about 12 miles from where I live. The Edge Of Love is getting its world premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival- the oldest film festival which has a reputation for edgy experimental films. The movie is nothing like Atonement but if youre into instant marketing then I guess thats a great way to sell it.

Just because it LOOKS like atonement doesn't mean it is. Anyone who sees this trailer and has read the adaption would know that it's nothing like Atonement. This is completley different from her portryal as cecelia in her previous movie. If you lot can't tell the difference then...stick to action flicks.

Keira is an outstanding actress. I'll watch anything she is in. Her acting ability is otherworldly.....Hope she never loses her focus and holds on for "true love" in her personal life...
